> Article 370 and 35A revoked by the Home Minister of India Amit Shah
Home minister Amit Shah announced in Parliament the suspension of Article 370 — via Clause 3 of the Article that allows presidential proclamation to decide the Article’s operation ability or suspension — which exempted J&K from the Indian Constitution (except Article 1 and Article 370 itself) and permitted the state to draft its own Constitution. The state will now be bifurcated into two Union territories: Ladakh without a legislature, and Jammu and Kashmir with a legislature. 

> Maharashtra adopts digital fingerprint and iris scanning system to aid police investigations
Maharashtra became the first state to adopt a digital fingerprint and iris scanning system to aid police investigations. The Automated Multimodal Biometric identification System adopted by the state Police will soon be replicated across the country.

> BIS to set up Pashmina testing centre in Leh
Bureau of Indian Standards would set up a Pashmina testing centre in Leh, in partnership with the lab of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council. 'Drive for Pashmina', a Motorbike expedition to create awareness and promote Pashmina was flagged off.

> Hyperloop Project in Maharashtra
Maharashtra has granted infrastructure project status for a USD 10 billion plan to build the world's first ultra-fast hyperloop project, aiming to link the financial hub of Mumbai with the neighbouring city of Pune. Pods can reach a speed of 750 miles/hr.

> India participates in 8th RCEP Intersessional Ministerial Meeting
Commerce Secretary Dr Anup Wadhwan led a delegation to the 8th RCEP Inter-sessional Ministerial meeting held in Beijing on 2-3 August 2019. During the meeting, he highlighted India's contribution in shaping the RCEP negotiations.

> Federal Bank launches instant Demat account opening facility
Federal Bank has launched a digital facility for instant online opening of Demat accounts for its customers. The bank customers can open Demat accounts in the matter of a minute by logging into the Internet banking portal FedNet.

> RBI bars NBFCs from charging loan foreclosure penalty
RBI barred non-banking finance companies from charging prepayment penalties or foreclosure charges from individual borrowers for purposes other than business. Foreclosure charges are part of the fee income for any lender and add to its bottom line.

> HSBC CEO John Flint steps down
John Flint, the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Holdings Plc was stepping down recently. He will be replaced on an interim basis by Noel Quinn, head of global commercial banking. He joined HSBC in 1989 and took over as CEO in February 2018.

> ISRO to build Center to Protect High-Value Assets
ISRO laid the foundation stone for a center to monitor and protect high-value space assets from space. It would facilitate the activities foreseen for Space Situational Awareness and Management to increase the debris population and operational space assets.

> Veteran Gujrati journalist Kanti Bhatt dies at 88
