> RBI cuts repo rate to 5.40%
Based on an assessment of the current and evolving macroeconomic situation, the MPC has reduced the policy repo rate under the LAF by 35 bps from 5.75% to 5.40% with immediate effect. RBI lowered the GDP growth rate also for 2019-20 to 6.9%.

> India contributes USD 5 million to UN Palestine refugee agency
India contributed USD 5 million to the UN Palestine refugee agency (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) and called for ensuring sustained financial support for the organization's work. India increased its financial assistance to UNRWA from USD 1.5 million to USD 5 million.

> NCAER expects India's GDP to grow at 6.2% in FY20
NCAER forecasted India's GDP growth is likely to be 6.2% during the current fiscal, down from 6.8% in 2018-19, on account of flat growth in the agriculture sector and Gross Value Added at basic prices at 6% for 2019-20 on a year-on-year basis.

India topped the latest ICC Test team rankings while New Zealand is placed 2nd and South Africa is in 3rd position. Virat Kohli retains his No. 1 position in the batsmen's rankings. In rankings for Test all-rounders, Jason Holder (West Indies) tops the list.

Mastercard launched the Identity Check Express, a next-generation, mobile-first authentication solution that aims to redefine an e-commerce journey for Indian consumers. It will help eliminate needless friction and enhance the security of online transactions.

> NEFT to function 24X7 from December says RBI
RBI announced plans for round-the-clock availability of the National Electronic Fund Transfer system from Dec'19. At present, NEFT is available to customers for retail payments between 8 am and 7 pm on all working days of the week, except bank holidays.

> Nation observes 77th-anniversary of Quit India movement
On 8 August 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave a clarion call to end the British rule and launched the Quit India movement at the session of the All-India Congress Committee in Mumbai. After the failure of the Cripps Mission, Gandhiji gave the call to Do or Die.

> SBI Life Insurance and Indian Bank ink Bancassurance pact
SBI Life Insurance and Indian Bank have entered into a bancassurance pact to offer holistic financial planning solutions to the latter's customers. The partnership will see over 2,851 branches of Indian Bank spread across the country selling SBI Life products.

> Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve now worth Rs 162 billion
Annual economic flow benefits of the Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve are worth a staggering Rs 162 billion, says a report titled Economic Valuation of Tiger Reserves in India. It is one of the largest tiger reserves spread over 3800 sq km.

> Toni Morrison passed away
First African-American woman to win the Nobel Prize in literature, in 1993, Toni Morrison passed away in Bronx, US. In 1988, she won the Pultizer Prize and the American Book Award for Beloved (1987). She also received the President Medal of Freedom in 2012.

> Former Padma Shri awardee and educationist Rajalakshmi Parthasarthy passed away

> Actor Steve Coogan will be felicitated with the Charlie Chaplin award by the British Academy's Los Angeles branch during the 2019 Britannia Awards

> Former President Pranab Mukherjee was honored with India's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna
